John Carpenter is actually my favorite artist and I'm so happy you recognize that the film works on a level beyond the memorable special effects (Carpenter has said that those effects made this the most frustrating, difficult film he ever worked on by the way). The setting of the movie is amazing and works so well with the tone and existential dread. Plus the performances are so great. Love this review.
Hey thanks so much, Danny! Yeah, the effects are just the (super gross) cherry on top, really. Makes sense that they would've been a big headache to work with though! So much blood and guts haha.

The Thing is astonishing! And is the kind of horror movie that will always be scary. Its power won't wane over time.
Yes, exactly! Really holds up.
The movie has been the basis for several board games over the years. If you're into board games, one of the most recent adaptations is solid: https://pendragongamestudio.com/blog/project/the-thing-the-boardgame/
Damn, had no idea! I love board games and this looks great!
I've played a few times. It captures the tension pretty dang well!
This'll rank at, like, 2/10 on the surprise scale, but my favorite part of "That Thing You Do!" is the music. Adam Schlesinger was musical savant.
Yes, he was!
Absolutely love The Thing. Terrified me as a child, thrilled me as an adult. I'm seeing it on the big screen in early April.
Ooh cool! It'd be a good one to see on the big screen.
