Cheers! I'd love to read a Lizzy Goodman type take on the parallel story of early 00s Indie Rock in Canada. I was pretty thoroughly indoctrinated into the Canadian Indie Rock pedagogy as a teenager (that good old, long lost CBC radio 3 video podcast...), and I've had this feeling ever since that Canada offers something disproportionate per capita to the story.
Totally agree. Maybe one day one of us should write it! Although it would be good to get the story from someone engrained in the origin story of Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver like Lizzy was with NYC. Someone who was there when AC Newman/Kevin Drew started the New Pornographers/Broken Social Scene, someone who was at CiTR with Nardwaur, etc.
First Blood is definitely underrated. I saw it as a kid, 11 or 12, when it first came out and I loved the violence and action sequences. But I’ve watched it several times as an adult and I appreciate its storytelling and the dramatic turn by Stallone which I think is perfectly pitched unlike the garbage of the later Rambo sequels
I’ve always thought it was phenomenal. For those saying Stallone can’t act I send them to that scene. So many actors, even those we expect little from, are capable of amazing performances (see Kevin Bacon in “Murder In The First”, Adam Sandler in “Reign Over Me”).

Yeah, I have close to zero desire to watch the sequels--it's a shame what they seem to have done to what was a nuanced character in First Blood!
Totally agree
That last scene killed me.

Reign Over Me! I was just talking to my wife about that movie. So good! Don't know Murder in the First, but judging by your taste, maybe I should.
