Thanks for the shoutout, and sorry for the belated show of appreciation for it! I constantly zigzag between posting stuff on Substack and deleting my online existence. The writer's remorse is no joke! Seeing your mention gives me the courage to continue doing the thing I love, even if it never pans out monetarily. I greatly enjoy writing and inching closer to pure transcription of the chaos in my brain.

It's been great fun to read the "Pony Letter" and notice our similar tastes. Regarding your recap, as a Twin Peaks fan, Severance pushed the right button for me, as did Atlanta with the return of their surrealistic 4th season. While I haven't worked a single day in a kitchen, The Bear did induce some stovetop PTSD I haven't been aware of.

I wish you all the best for this year, and I am excited to read your hot takes on whatever topic it may be in the future! :)

Best,

Kal

Every now and then I need permission to share my thoughts online, too. Your recommendation of Ponytail Press this year was definitely one of those moments where I felt we got it. Thanks!

And keep up the good work on your end! I know, from personal experiencee, that sharing your creative writing is the hardest part. You're braver than I am, and it spurs me to do it more myself.

Thanks for the shoutout! I'm so thrilled my ridiculous stories make you laugh each week.

Hard agree on Story Club. George Saunders is a national treasure and a constant source of inspiration. Can't recommend his Substack enough to writers and creators.

Here's to a hopefully fantastic 2023!

Thanks for including me here! I'm in some high company, and I appreciate that. I'm glad we were able to connect this year, and hope that continues (I haven't forgotten I owe you an email)!

TV-wise, I didn't watch a whole lot, but I sure fell hard for Yellowstone. My wife watched Only Murders in the Building, and I think I'd have gotten more into it if I'd sat down and watched it all the way through. Definitely not a show you can float in & out of.

The fantastic Mr. Fox was on pretty much nonstop when my oldest son was younger. If pushed, I'd bet he can recite most of it. We should probably watch it again one of these days just to test drive that theory.

Hey Andrew! Thanks for the tag. I really enjoyed our strategy call and discussing all things music and newsletters! Like you, I have several tracks from HAIM and Georgia Harmer on my year-end playlist.

I’m moving What’s Curation? to another platform in Jan, but other than that it’s going to be business as usual. Thanks for reading my little newsletter and participating in the comments. See you on Monday. 👏🏽

Motel Life is a great book. Based on your like of Motel Life, I suggest Breece D'J Pancake's stories. He has only book. He died young.
