Hi! Ponytail Press is Andrew Koole and Joel Brandt, two long-haired, freaky people who take art and culture a little too seriously.

“This means something. This is important.” - Roy Neary, Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

We started Ponytail Press by producing our Ponytail Picks every other week. Contained within are polite suggestions for listening, watching, and/or reading more deeply on a unique theme.

We have lots of ideas for what PP could become, but some elements we’ve landed on include more music journalism (PonyTunes), mini movie reviews (Two-Movie Tuesday) and humble offerings of fresh tracks and ‘stacks courtesy of Internet Farm Cat. Stay tuned to see what else we have in store!

Why subscribe?

Because it’s more fun that way! You’ll stay up to date on all our Ponytail Picks and join our growing community of culture-lovers. Plus, you’ll also have a front-row seat to Ponytail Press as it evolves.

How it works

Subscribe, and every post from Ponytail Press will arrive in your inbox. (Hint: adding an inbox filter will help keep us out of your less-frequented folders).

Opt for a paid subscription!

We love bringing you new things to read, watch, and listen to, but it’s a lot of work. Opting for a paid subscription (only $5 CAD per month or $50 per year) will help us continue to deliver your favourite emails week in, week out.

Exclusive content for paid subscribers (creative works, longform media analysis & criticism, etc.) will arrive in 2023. Subscribe now and you won’t miss a thing!

We know (from personal experience) that even $5 a month is a tough ask during hard times. If you’d love access to all Ponytail Press offers but simply can’t afford it, don’t hesitate to let us know by replying to a newsletter email. We’d much rather have you in the crew than have you walk away with your empty pockets, dejected. Despite the paywall, Ponytail Press is for all!

Join the crew!

We know we’re not the only ones with opinions about the art reaching our eyes and ears. Don’t be shy! We want to know what you think. It’s how we build this community of culture-eaters.
